Free-use permits are available to the public for downed ponderosa pine cut last year during a logging operation in the Little Carver area. The trees were cut to thin the forest and improve the health and resilience of remaining trees.

The offered wood is on the ground, dry and ready to burn.

Permit holders will be allowed to remove up to two cords of the downed wood per household. Permit holders may not fall any additional standing trees or disrupt existing burn piles.

Those who would like to remove the free firewood must first obtain a free-use permit and carry it with them to the area. Permits and maps can be obtained Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. from the Dolores Public Lands Office at 29211 Highway 184.

For more information, call (970) 882-7296.
