The World Famous Escalante Days Celebration and Softball Tournament is next weekend, Aug. 9-11. It is entertaining fun for the whole family. The theme this year is "Dancing in the Streets" because of the street dance and beer garden we are hosting this year.

There are still a few spots available for vendors at Escalante Days on Aug. 9-10. Call Ruby Gonzales at 882-7717 or stop in the Visitor's Center or go online if you are interested in having a booth. The street dance and beer garden features Vanishing Breed and will be Saturday night from 4 to 8 p.m. The Greater Dolores Action gang is joining forces with the Chamber for the beer harden. But first, on Friday evening from 4-6:30 p.m., you can rock out with the timeless music of Louis Edwards and Yesterday. Louis has opened for Barbara Mandrell as well as other well known entertainers.

This year Escalante Days will feature some other new events. Rico, Mancos, Dolores, Pleasant View, Cortez and other Montezuma and Dolores County fire departments will square off in a water-fight competition at 4 p.m. on Saturday. We will have a bouncy house and rumor has it there might even be a swimming pool booth for the kids as well. KKDC "D'Crow" 93.3FM will once again provide live coverage on Saturday for our parade and other events.

Spectators are welcome to the sanctioned ITSA Mountain West Vintage and Modern Motorcycle Trials Saturday and Sunday, starting at 9 a.m. The Cozy Comfort is hosting this event. Call Tony at 882-2483 for more information.

There will be our Kiddy Parade on Friday night at 6 p.m. followed by a bike rodeo sponsored by the Dolores Rotary Club at 6:30, and then an ice cream-eating contest provided by the Dolores General Store gets underway at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday's fun kicks off with the K-9 Search and Rescue Pancake Breakfast from 6-10 a.m. at the Dog House. Our main parade will be on Saturday at 10 a.m. There is no cost to be in the parade. Show up at 9:30 in front of the high school. Both parades are sponsored by the Montezuma Character Council. Other event highlights are Galloping Goose rides, the Rotary Club's Mountain Bike Race, the always popular Kiwanis Club Duck Race, and the incredibly entertaining chain-saw and arm wrestling competitions (this year sponsored by Riverfront Pizza). We will have numerous other family games that make Escalante Days the event of the summer.

Check out our Facebook site and you will see the latest picture from our Business After Hours, hosted by Four Corners Properties. We frequently post new pictures there from our events and other things of local interest. The Ponderosa did a great job once again with the food and service for our July monthly membership meeting.

If you want to get to know your fellow Dolores residents, have some great food and refreshments, do some great networking and unwind from a busy day, then you definitely want to check out our next monthly Business After Hours. In August it will be on the 22nd at the Rio Grande Southern on their outdoor patio then Sept. 26t we will all meet at the Dolores River Campground, formerly Dolores River RV Park, and for the final one of 2013, we will all converge at the Second Chance Thrift Store on Oct. 24. The hours are 5 to 7 p.m. for every Business After Hours.

Our next monthly membership meeting will be Aug. 28 Karma Coffee from noon to 1 p.m

Now this weekend, Aug. 2-4 is the always fun AKC Dog Agility Show in Joe Rowell Park. Friday it goes from noon to 8 p.m., and then it's 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Spectators are welcome but please leave your dogs at home
