Mancos officials have recognized a Grand Avenue home for its aesthetically pleasing exterior.

The board of trustees launched its new "Citizen Recognition" program last week, bestowing their first award to 645 W. Grand Ave. The board is not releasing the names of the property owners or renters responsible for the attractive premises.

Town Administrator Andrea Phillips explained the program serves as a yard-of-the-month type gratitude.

"The trustees were impressed with the home's water-saving xeriscape," Phillips explained. "They're using drought-tolerant cacti and succulents with rocks, and it looks really nice."

The recognition includes a $25 check from the town, and trustees will select their next Citizen Recognition award from residences northeast of the Highway 145/160 interchange.

To help residents prepare to win the distinction, town officials will provide roll-off bins at the public works building Sept. 20-21 to collect non-hazardous items only, and the town sponsors a free yard-waste drop off at the old town dump on the third Saturday of every month from 9 a.m. to noon.

Town officials are also compiling a list of qualified and licensed tree service professionals to help residents requesting assistance with such services. For additional information, visit www.mancoscolorado.com.
