A winning jackpot Lotto ticket worth $3 million was sold Saturday at Albertsons in Durango to someone who has yet to claim the prize.
The Colorado Lottery tracks where and when winning tickets are sold but relies on winners to step forward to claim their prize money, said spokeswoman Kelly Tabor.
“It’s very possible this person doesn’t know they have a winning ticket,” she said.
The winner has 180 days to claim the prize money and must travel to Grand Junction, Denver, Fort Collins or Pueblo to receive it, Tabor said. The winner can choose between a lump sum of $1.5 million upfront subject to a 28% tax or the full $3 million over 25 years, she said.
Most lottery winners opt to receive the a lump sum, she said.
The Colorado Lottery sells about seven to eight winning jackpot Lotto tickets each year, she said.
The winning numbers were 3, 6, 9, 15, 26 and 31.
Winning numbers are selected through an electronic random number generator.
