Dolores volleyball downs rival Mancos

Senior volleyball player Jordan Elder led Dolores High School to a convincing 25-8, 25-20, 25-20 home victory over Mancos on Sept. 19.

Among Elder’s accomplishments during the straight-set victory were a match-best 14 kills that came from various spots on the court and continuously flummoxed Mancos defenders. Elder, who has committed to the University of Northern Arizona, also notched three aces and four blocks to lead her team.

Complementing Elder was sophomore teammate Erin Brown, who hammered down 11 kills, delivered three blocks, and notched seven digs.

Akira Edwards enjoyed a strong game defensively with 12 digs, and Karmi Willbanks and Carlie McKellen split setting duties and were credited with 15 assists and 10 assists, respectively.

Now 7-3 overall and 4-0 in the San Juan Basin League, Dolores will prepare for a home matchup against Ignacio on Sept. 24. Mancos will play its next match at home against Nucla on Sept. 26.
