At a meeting of the San Juan Basin A League held Wednesday night in Mancos, rules and regulations for girls' athletics were formulated. Included for competition were volleyball, gymnastics, basketball and track.
Superintendent J.D. Hathaway stated that the Dolores Schools will participate in all areas of competition if enough interest is shown.

Preliminary budget figures were gone over by the Board of Education at a special meeting held Monday night, with figures showing a total outlay of $16,000 for teacher salary raises alone. The total preliminary budget was $538,970.

Rico News & Views by Charles M. Engel: Rico had an energy crisis. The mines were not working on the weekend, it was near the end of the day and inconveniences were minimal.
Sunday evening the lights blinked as if in warning. At about 8:52 a power outage occurred and the town was in darkness. Gusting winds with rain and hail were reported to the north, and snow fell from Lake City to the Wilson peaks, according to a traveler who came over the pass.
The outage lasted approximately five hours and during that time, telephone service was also interrupted. Cause of the blackout was not known.

Due to the heavy rain Monday, the field trip planned by the Dolores River Garden Club had to be canceled.

The Ike Duncans are popping their proud buttons this week on the birth of a new granddaughter born to Mr. and Mrs. Rodger Fulks at Cedaredge. Of course, the Fulks are a little proud too.

Mr. and Mrs. Earl Ashcroft are in the process of moving to their new home near Summit Lake permanently. Mrs. Ashcroft and son, Mike, are moved in now and earl will be here to stay after the first of the year. They purchased the Park Conoco Station in Mancos last year.

Grass drags for snowmobile enthusiasts have been set up for three consecutive Sundays. The races will be held on the Charles Ledford property just south of the Thunderbird Speedway north of Cortez. Signs will be posted directing people to the place. The track will be mowed swamp grass.

Bernice McMillan started school at the vocational school Wednesday. Bertha McMillan fell and broke her left wriest Wednesday evening. She spent the night in the hospital.

Alma Beaber Patton passed away this weekend in Menlo Park, Calif. She was a former resident of this area, attending school in Cortez and later teaching there before moving to California.

Don Haley, executive vice president, announced this week that the Montrose County Bank of Naturita has now topped the $1 million mark on deposits.
Haley was previously with the Dolores State Bank before moving to Naturita to take over management of the new facility.

A group met recently with County Attorney Grace Merlo and Auditor Gale Greenlee to organize the cemetery districts in the county to meet statutory requirements. They included E.H. Gilliland, Pleasant View; Sid and Buelah Sheppard and Roxie Rutherford, Lewis; Marguerite Garner and Harry Longenbaugh, Arriola, and Callie Lofquist, Katie Akin and James Porter, Dolores.
