Over the course of its season, the Montezuma-Cortez High School softball team became known for its explosive offense and top-notch pitching.

Therefore, it seemed only fitting that the Lady Panthers outscored their opponents by a combined score of 49-5 during the final three games of the regular season while establishing themselves as a force heading into the Class 3A playoffs.

Kicking off M-CHS’ impressive string of late-season victories was a 15-0 drubbing of Aspen High School in the first game of a home doubleheader on Oct. 10. The Lady Panthers followed that victory with a 19-3 victory over the Skiers later in the day.

M-CHS closed out its regular season with a 15-2 win over Palisade High School in a game that was played at Colorado Mesa University on Oct. 12.

Thanks in part to its string of impressive victories, M-CHS will enter the postseason with a 16-5 record overall and a 9-3 record in the Class 3A District 5 League.

The Lady Panthers next action will come during a Class 3A Regional Tournament on Oct. 19 at a site yet to be determined.
