As the weeks pass, the wins just keep piling up for the Dove Creek High School Bulldogs’ volleyball team.

Playing on the road against Ouray High School on Sept. 13, the Bulldogs performed well, winning the match in three sets by scores of 25-10, 25-11 and 25-4.

“The first set, the girls were trying to do some tipping and hitting down the lines,” said Bulldogs’ head coach Scott Knuckles. “We adjusted and started hitting to the middle of the court. At that point, we were able to gain control.”

Leading the Bulldogs’ attack against Ouray was Shelbie Knuckles, who recorded 14 kills on 22 attempts. Corissa Guynes led the team in serving with six aces while Jennifer Fury, Kristin Knuckles and Guynes tied for the team lead in digs with 7.

Following up their victory against Ouray with a match on the road against Grand County on Sept. 14, the Bulldogs recorded another straight set victory, 25-22, 25-22, 25-14.

(Grand County) has some tall girls,” Knuckles said. “We’re competing with girls that are 3 or 4 inches taller than us. It was close the whole way.”

Again leading the Bulldogs with 15 kills in 37 attempts was Shelbie Knuckles. Jessica Guynes led the team in aces with two, while Fury led the team in digs with 15. Discussing the two victories, coach Knuckles stated, “We improved on our serving percentage and our digging percentage. Overall, the girls did really good.”

With their season record now at 7-0, Dove Creek will next meet the Dolores High School Bears at home Sept. 17. The matchup between Bulldogs and the Bears will be the first of two regular season matchups between the teams.
