Goal Academy, a public online charter high school, started the 2013-14 school year, but it is not too late to register. Open enrollment for students ages 14 to 21 will continue until Oct 1.

Applications are available at www.goalac.org. Students in Pagosa Springs can come to the drop-in center at 100 Country Center Drive from 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for assistance with an application or to visit and speak with staff members and students. Students in Cortez can fill out applications by going to the website, or by stopping by the new Goal Academy drop-in center at 19 North Maple Ave. Students in surrounding communities between Cortez and Pagosa Springs who need help with an application can call 576-8076.

Goal Academy is a free public-school opportunity for students to earn an accredited Colorado Department of Education high school diploma. The school combines online learning with experiential learning, on-site classes, self-designed electives, and concurrent enrollment opportunities for students who excel and want to earn college credit while still in high school.

It offers flexibility so students can juggle school, work and family without the stress of doing "seat time" to complete graduation requirements. Academic coaches and support staff are on site to provide assistance. Course assistance provided by highly qualified content specialists is available online from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Fridays. Students can work independently.

For more information, call 576-8076.
