Colorado Parks and Wildlife is sponsoring a chukar hunt for young hunters in late September. The event is free and will be limited to 20 hunters. Advance registration is required.
The one-day event is designed for novices and intended to introduce youngsters to hunting. To be eligible, participants must be 12 to 17 years old, possess a valid hunter safety card, a small-game hunting license and have approval of a parent or guardian.
The hunt will be held Sept. 28 at the Lone Dome State Wildlife area, which is below the McPhee Reservoir dam in Montezuma and Dolores counties.

Applications must be submitted by Sept. 7.
