Durango was ranked as the second-best driving city in Colorado, though the Durango Police Department may disagree.

Believe it or not, Durango was ranked as having the second-best drivers in the state of Colorado.

Every year, Quote Wizard, a website that compares car insurance costs, puts together national rankings for the best and worst driving states and cities in the U.S. The company’s findings were released last week.

The list, Quote Wizard says, is based on insurance quotes, as well as information from the Federal Highway Administration and National Association of Insurance Commissioners, which include the number of accidents, speeding tickets, DUIs and moving citations.

Colorado, as a whole, received a “C minus” rating and is listed as the 26th worst state to drive in across the country. Denver ranked the eighth worst-driving city in the country, and Colorado Springs was ranked as the 16th.

“It comes as no surprise that when you look into the worst-driving cities in Colorado, you’ll find the suburb cities of Denver and Colorado Springs,” the report read.

Big cities aside, coming in as the second-best place to drive in Colorado was Durango.

The news is a bit surprising seeing as the Durango Police Department posted to its Facebook page Wednesday about the high number of car crashes in town.

“It seems that we all suck at driving around and not running into one another or stationary objects,” Durango police’s post said. “Before you think we are casting stones, this would include cops from time to time!”

Durango police said there have been 520 crashes so far in 2019, and nearly 50 in October alone. There were also 17 hit-and-runs in October, police reported.

Pueblo was identified as the best-driving city in the state.
