Joe Rowell Park is expanding as the town crew adds the sprinkler system for grass. The plan is add picnic tables and shade trees.

The Dolores Public Works Department is improving Joe Rowell Park on the west end near the river.

The area just beyond the parking lot near the Highway 145 Bridge was cleared of weeds and rocks, graded and planted with grass seed. Two new sprinkler zones will keep it lush.

“It was kind of drab there and we wanted to make it more attractive for locals and visitors coming into town,” said Randy McGuire, public works manager. “It will give fishermen nicer access to the river as well.”

New shade trees are planned as well as picnic tables for the new park development. A barbecue grill already exists in that spot.
