Duncan’s Upholstery, has opened shop at 1401 E. Main St. in Cortez, across from McDonald’s.

Owner and longtime local Duncan Oveson has been practicing his craft since 1973. He had a shop in Mancos from 1977 to 1985, and later had shops in Minnesota, Fresno and one in Cortez from 2007 to 2011 next to Safeway.

“Anything that can fit through the door I can upholstery for you,” he says.

He doesn’t have room for vehicles at his new shop, but special arrangements for vehicle jobs may be possible.

Some suggestions for a new look with upholstery are dining room chairs, furniture, couches, recliners, motorcycle seats, and four-wheeler seats, to name a few.

After driving a truck for years, Oveson is back home and ready to settle in to his trade of choice. At 61, he’s also settling down, marrying a local woman he was friends with as a kid. Her unique gifts are also for sale in the shop.

“She’s a retired home-economics teacher so she makes dragons, Renaissance costumes, hats and jewelry,” he said.

Hours are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Stop in or call 564-9020.
