An officer was asked to respond to a residence for a disturbance in progress. The reporting party said the suspect was walking away from the scene and was also asking for medical attention. Upon the officer’s arrival he spoke with the reporting party who was crying, had an abrasion on the left side of her face, fresh blood on her lips, and her neck was bright red. The woman said that her common law husband had gotten a bottle of Vodka and began drinking, then started an argument with her about not finding a job. The woman said that her husband starting hitting her in the face with a closed fist and then put both of his hands around her neck and began choking and shaking her. She said she was able to get away and ran over to her husband’s parent’s motorhome and knocked on their door and his mom called 911. The husband’s parent’s said the woman knocked on their door and was crying so they called 911. They said their son only has anger problems when he drinks. Meanwhile another office was speaking with the man and had arrested him. The man was charged with 3rd degree assault, domestic violence and violation of a protection order.
Monday, Oct. 28
Cortez dispatch requested that an officer respond to CR 27 in reference to an assault. Upon arrival the officer spoke with a man who stated he was traveling north on CR 27 when a dog ran out and under his vehicle. The man said he hit the dog and got out to check on it. He said while he was checking on the dog a woman came running out to the road yelling at him that her son was going to beat him up. He said a young male came to the road and struck him several times in the head with a closed fist that caused lacerations to his right eye and his left ear. The officer tried locating the young man at his residence but was unable to. The officer went to the ER and spoke with the man who did not want to press charges at the time.
Thursday, Oct. 31
Dispatch aired a possible drunk driver in a white van that was leaving the Handymart Convenience Store. The reporting party said her husband had left the area after a verbal argument and that he was under the influence of alcohol and had three children inside the vehicle. An officer was driving on the 20000 Block of CR G when he observed a white Plymouth van matching the description given earlier. The officer contacted the driver and the driver asked him if he was in trouble for fighting with his wife. The officer said he pulled him over for his driving actions. While speaking with the man the officer observed two toddlers unrestrained moving around in the third row seating. He also observed an infant behind the drivers seat restrained in a car seat. The officer could smell an unknown alcohol beverage coming from the driver’s breath and asked him how much he had to drink. The man said “Too much”. Dispatch advised the officer that the man had an active warrant and also did not have a valid Colorado Drivers License. The man was arrested and blew a .189. The man was charged with driving a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs or both, driving a vehicle without a valid driver’s license, failed to drive in a single lane and three counts of child abuse.
Friday, Nov. 1
An officer was patrolling northbound in the 17000 block of Hwy. 491 when he observed an older motor home that had expired license plates, which showed being expired July of 2011. The driver of the motor home could not provide current registration or insurance. Dispatch advised the officer that the registration showed an expiration of July of 2009. The driver of the motor home was issued a summons for failure to present evidence of insurance and displayed expired number plates. The man was cited and released.
