Showing off the leaping ability that made him a basketball star at Montezuma-Cortez High School, Colorado Mesa goalie Micah Conrads stops a high shot on goal.

As a student at Montezuma-Cortez High School, Micah Conrads starred in three sports, excelled in the classroom and sported one of the best hairdos that this area has ever seen.

Now a junior a Colorado Mesa University, Conrads continues to excel on the athletic field and in the classroom, albeit with a slightly shorter hair cut.

Currently a goalie on Colorado Mesa University’s soccer team, Conrads recently wrapped up an outstanding season in which he helped lead his team to a 13-5-3 record and a win in the championship of the RMAC tournament.

Individually speaking, Conrads was stellar, allowing only ten goals in eleven games in route to a 9-0-2 individual record. As a result of his performances, Conrads was named RMAC Goalie of the Year.

In addition to his outstanding performances on the soccer field, Conrads was solid in the classroom as he was named to the RMAC Academic Honor Roll.

“Personally, it was a great season for me,” said Conrads. “I didn’t have any losses on the season.”

Highlighting the 2013 campaign for Conrads was an outstanding performance against Regis University in the championship of the RMAC tournament, a game won by Colorado Mesa 2-1.

“Our season started off slow, but took a major turn,” said Conrads of the year. “It was huge for the team.”

Asked what has allowed him to have such success, Conrads credited improved communication skills and hard work throughout the offseason.

“This season, I’ve come a long way with knowing how to communicate with my defender’s,” said Conrads.

Ever cognizant of his small-town roots, Conrads eagerly expressed that his accomplishments on the college soccer field would have been possible without his youth in Cortez.

“I definitely have a lot of support throughout the community,” said Conrads. “My dad was involved, being at practices growing up. My high school coach, Dave Robinson, supported me all through high school. Part of me wanting to play and do well is wanting to represent Cortez well.”

In terms of advice he might provide to up and coming athletes in Cortez, Conrads suggested that the ability to work hard and maintain an open mind are extremely important.

“I think it’s important to always have a positive attitude,” said Conrads. “Learn from everyone that you can. Keep working hard.”

Most definitely solid advice from one of Cortez’s finest student athletes, who, on a daily basis, continues to serve his community proud.
