Lauren Boebert, owner of Shooters Grill in Rifle, is trying to unseat U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton, R-Cortez. She is seen with her husband, Jayson. She holds events in Cortez on Friday and Saturday.

Lauren Boebert, who is challenging U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton for the Republican nomination for the U.S. 3rd Congressional District, plans two events in Cortez Friday and Saturday.

Boebert, who owns Shooters Grill in Rifle, where servers “proudly open carry” firearms, said she is scheduled to hold a fundraiser open to the public at 6 p.m. Friday at the Baymont by Wyndham, 2270 Hawkins St. in Cortez.

She also is scheduled to speak Saturday during the morning session of the Southwestern Colorado Livestock Association meeting Saturday at the Cortez Elks Club, 2100 Dolores Road.

The session is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Tipton is also scheduled to speak at the meeting.

Boebert

Boebert said she holds question-and-answer sessions during all her events.

“The Q and A is the part I always look forward to because you can meet people and emphasize points with people. I’m a very spontaneous person, and the Q and A is something I can have fun with,” she said.

In her speech, Boebert said she will introduce herself, talk about issues, Shooters Grill and why she chose to run for office.

“I will talk about some of the differences between me and my opponent because people always ask why you’re challenging a Republican. But I like to talk about the things I’m running for not the things I’m running against,” she said.

In addition to her meetings in Cortez, Boebert will plans a meet-and-greet at 5 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Four Leaves Winery, 528 Main Ave., in Durango.
