The Open Shutter Gallery in Durango is presenting its fourth annual international juried exhibit, Exposure, which was juried by Cara Weston, from the famous Weston family.

The exhibit runs Friday, Dec. 6, through Jan. 9, 2014.

Seventy-two photographers from across the United States and from as far away as Iceland and Thailand will exhibit their black and white, color and alternative-process photographs in the gallery. The show also includes six talented new photographers under the age of 18.

The images for the exhibit were chosen by the Open Shutter Gallery. The special awards, including best of show, best of color, best of black and white and seven excellence awards were picked by Cara Weston.

Weston lives in Carmel, Calif., where she was the director of the Weston Gallery for many years. The daughter of photographer Cole Weston, and granddaughter of Edward Weston, she has lived in the world of photography all her life. Currently, she is co-trustee for the Weston Family Trust, superintending the sale of legacy prints and overseeing the family website www.edward-weston.com.

Although she initially photographed using only black and white film, she has broken with family tradition and has embraced digital photography. Her work is represented by the Susan Spiritus Gallery.

The Open Shutter Gallery opened for business in 2001 and has exhibited over 100 locally, nationally and internationally recognized photographers. Many of the exhibits promote an awareness of important humanitarian and conservation issues. In 2008, the gallery moved to its current location on Main Avenue.

The opening reception is Friday at 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will host many of the photographers. Award winners will be announced at the opening.
