What turned out to be a memorable night for Spencer Gatlin became a forgettable night for the Dove Creek Bulldogs boys basketball team.

Competing at home against Monument Valley on Dec. 12, Gatlin erupted for 31 points, yet the sophomore’s contributions were all for not as Dove Creek fell 66-47.

Throughout the early stages of the contest, the Bulldogs played well, trailing 12-11 after the first eight minutes.

The second quarter proved to be a difficult one for the hometown team however, as Monument Valley outscored the Bulldogs 23-5 in route to a 35-16 halftime lead.

Although Dove Creek played Monument Valley even throughout the second half, matching the visitors with 16 points in the third quarter and 15 points in the fourth, the tough second quarter proved too much to overcome.

With their record now at 1-3, the Bulldogs will look to improve in advance of a Dec. 17 road matchup against the Dolores Bears.
