An officer observed a black Nissan Altima traveling faster than the posted speed limit of 65 mph. He activated his dash mounted radar unit and after hearing a clear and constant tone and seeing a visual readout of 84 mph the officer confirmed the vehicle to be speeding. The officer contacted the driver and asked him for his driver’s license. The man stated that he did not have a driver’s license. The officer had dispatch check to see if the man had a driver’s license as well as for warrants. Dispatch advised that the man could apply for a license and that he did have a warrant. The man was arrested and served with the warrant. He was also charged with driving 10-19 over and driving without a valid driver’s license.
Friday, Dec. 13
An officer was in the town of Dolores when a pickup passed him and he heard the engine of the pickup rev up to accelerate to a speed of 45 mph in a posted 35 mph zone. The officer turned around to conduct a traffic stop and he had to speed up to 75 mph in order to catch up to the pickup. The officer caught up to the driver at the Hollywood Bar and approached the driver who smelled of an unknown alcohol beverage. The officer asked the man if he had been drinking and he said he had been and that he had a few drinks. The officer asked the man to step to the rear of the vehicle. The man had to hold onto the door as support as he stepped out and nearly fell once his feet touched the ground. Due to the fact the officer smelled the overwhelming odor of an unknown alcoholic beverage, the man’s extremely bloodshot, watery and glassy eyes, and staggering while walking the officer placed him under arrest. The man was charged with a DUI and DUI Per Se.
Saturday, Dec. 14
An officer observed a multicolor older model Ford pickup truck parked in the entrance to Blue Door Pawn. As he approached the entrance to Blue Door Pawn the officer noticed a female looking inside of several vehicles, which were parked next to the entrance. He also noticed another female inside the driver side of the Ford pickup looking around with her head out the window. Based on the officer’s training and experience it looked to him that the female inside the truck was acting as a look out for the other female as they were attempting to commit a crime. The officer contacted the women and asked dispatch to check their license statuses as well as for warrants. Dispatch advised the officer that one of the women had a warrant for her arrest and based on her drug criminal history the officer requested a K9 respond to the location and assist him with a free air sniff of the Ford pickup. The K9 actively alerted to the driver side of the vehicle. The officer searched the vehicle and found a plastic containing a white powdery substance. The woman agreed to speak with the officer. She said that the bag was probably filled with meth, which she smokes because of what she is going through but that it was from along time ago, about four or five days ago. The woman was charged with introducing contraband in the first degree and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
Sunday, Dec. 15
An officer contacted a driver for going 73 mph in a posted 65 mph zone. The driver said he was a little late for work and he was trying to slow down. Dispatch advised the officer that the man’s driving privileges were revoked in the state of Colorado for being a habitual traffic offender. Dispatch confirmed the man’s license was revoked thru July 15, 2016. The man was placed under arrest and charged with driving vehicle after revocation prohibited and speeding 5-9 over Prima Faci Limit.
