The mail ballot election for Dolores Town Board turned competitive this month.

There are now six candidates for five open board seats after two residents signed up in time to be write-in candidates.

The Dolores mayor position is also open, but there is only one candidate, Santiago Lopez, a shoe in.

Board candidates are James Biard, Isabel Boyce, Robert Dobry, Trevor Ince, Timothy Mueller and Duvall “Val” Truelsen.

Ballots were mailed out March 14 to registered voters.

They must be signed and mailed back in time to reach the town clerk by election day April 5.

Ballots can also be dropped off at Dolores town hall by April 5 by 7 p.m. After 7 p.m. on April 5, the ballots will be counted by election judges at the Montezuma County clerk and recorders office.

The highest vote getters will get four year terms, and the fewest vote getters will get two-year terms.
