Wednesday, Feb. 19

The SJMA, San Juan National Forest and BLM Tres Rios Field Office will offer a program to become a Forest Service Junior Snow Ranger at the Chicken Creek Cross-Country Skin Area on Feb. 22 from 10 a.m. to noon. Snowshoes will be available for children. Adults who need snowshoes must pre-register by Feb. 19. For ages 4 and up, accompanied by an adult. The Mancos Public Library will have an adult computer class called Computer Basics: Internet Searching on Feb. 20 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Mancos Public Library's Community Meeting Room. The Sixth Annual Homegrown Food Retreat will be at Fort Lewis College in the Student Union Ballroom on Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Coordinated by Southwest Colorado and sponsored by Zia Taqueria, Fort Lewis College Environmental Center, Sodexo, CSU Extension and Durango Natural Foods. The 31st annual Millwood Follies will start at 5 p.m., and the entertainment will follow at 7 p.m. at the Millwood Junction, 101 W. Railroad Avenue. The popular Mancos event will be raising money to buy cardiology equipment for Mercy Regional Medical Center. All proceeds will go to Mercy Health Foundation.

The Mancos Public Library will show the following movies on Mondays in February: Feb. 17 - Library Closed (President's Day), no movie, Feb. 24 - "Smurfs 2" (1 hr., 45 min.). Saturday, March. 1

The Mancos Opera House Architectural, Restoration and Preservation Society along with the Montezuma County VFW Post #5231 and Ladies Auxiliary are organizing a Mardi Gras fundraiser to be held at the Mancos Opera House, 136 W. Grand Ave. on March 1 from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. This year's theme is "Hard Days Night." Tickets are $30 per person and $50 per couple. Sponsor tables are available to purchase for $300. Sunday, March 9

Little League Baseball is now open for registration. Super Saturday registration will take place at the Cortez Recreation Center on Feb. 8 and 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or at Hibbett Sports on March 8 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Baseball is open for ages 4 to 15 as of April 30. Cost varies from $55 to $105 according to age. To save money, register by Feb. 15, registration closes March 9. There will be a benefit Chili dinner and silent auction for Amy Martin, a mother of three fighting stage 2 breast cancer, to help with medical bills on March 22 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Lewis Arriola Community Center. The Mancos Seed Library will be hosting three seed workshops and a seed exchange in March starting with "A Celebration of Seeds" on March 3. "The intelligence of Seeds: Reproductive Biology" on March 10 and "The Abundance of Seeds: Basics of Seed Saving" on March 17. All workshops will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mt. Lookout Grange at 680 Grand Avenue. The Seed Swap will be March 23 at 4 p.m. with a potluck and raffle to follow. Open to the public. First Thursday

Mancos Community Dinners will be the Second Sunday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at Mt. Lookout Grange, 680 Grand Ave. This is a pay-what-you-can event. All ages are welcome. The Mancos Water Conservancy District will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. Meetings are held the second Tuesday of every month at 42599 Road N off Road 42.

A Free legal self-help clinic for Montezuma County parties without an attorney will be held the second Thursday of every month from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Mancos Public Library, 211 W. First St. Volunteer attorneys will assist one-on-one, via computer link. First come first-served basis.
