Council issues call for artists: Snow (or no) Snow

The Arts Council's next show at the Town Gallery will be the Sixth Annual Snow Show.

All art submitted must be framed and ready to hand - the theme is snow (or no snow) as the case may be.

There are no fees for entering this show. Just show us your favorite winter scene - or any art inspired by winter.

Artworks must be turned into the gallery by Feb. 27, and the show will be hung on March 2.

It will open at Friday, March 7 with a reception for the artists.

The show is part of the annual Mancos Melt.

County fair is holding book cover, poster contest

The Montezuma County Fair Board is inviting the community to participate in a contest to design the fair book cover and poster for the 2014 Montezuma County Fair. The theme is rural roots.

The deadline for designs is April 1 by 4 p.m. at the Montezuma County Extension Office, 109 W. Main, Room 102, Cortez.

Veronica Shaner named to Mines' dean's list

Veronica M. Shaner of Mancos, in recognition of her outstanding achievement during the fall semester of the 2013-14 academic year, was named to the dean's list at Colorado School of Mines.

This accomplishment is a reflection of her hard work and desire for excellence.

School district seeks senior food-service worker

The Mancos School District is looking for a senior citizen to work there as part of the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), which trains seniors for gainful employment opportunities. The participant will be paid to train through funding from the U.S. Department of Labor. The school district would like to train a senior in the food service department.

SCSEP is an organization that is committed to improving the quality of life for low-income, financially eligible seniors by assigning them to temporary subsidized training and assisting them in their search for unsubsidized jobs in their community. SCSEP is the steward of federal funds, appropriated to recruit, train, and place eligible seniors in subsidized employment.

Applicants must be at least 55 years of age, not currently employed, and be on a limited income to participate. Wages and benefits are provided by SER Jobs For Progress, a 501 (C) (3) organization funded by the United States Department of Labor.
