Movie Mondays will be at 4 p.m. in March

During March, Movie Mondays at Mancos Public Library will be held at 4 p.m. The films are free for ages 8 years old and up. Younger children welcome with an adult. The line up for March is as follows. On March 17 , Escape From Planet Earth will be shown. On March 24, the library will feature Frozen, the recent Disney hit. On March 31, the library will show the Wind in the Willows.

Dolores youth earns Eagle Scout badge

It took seven years, but Evan Moore of Boy Scout Troop 518, chartered by the Mancos Hose Company No. 1, reached a goal by earning his Eagle Scout badge.

The final step in the process was his Eagle project, refurbishing the walking bridge at Mancos State Park.Evan began his tenure with the Boy Scouts as a Tiger Cub in first grade in Cub Scout Pack 516, chartered with the Methodist Church in Dolores. In fifth grade, he completed Cub Scouts by earning the Arrow of Light and transferred to the Mancos Troop, since there was not a Boy Scout troop in Dolores.

Moore, a senior at Dolores High School, earned his Eagle Scout badge on Dec. 18, 2013. He is one of 12 from Mesa Verde District, in Durango, to earn the badge in 2013. His Court of Honor is set for June.

VFW post holding St. Patrick's Day dinner

The Montezuma County VFW Post #5231 and Ladies Auxiliary will be holding their Annual St. Patrick's Day Dinner on Monday, March 17, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the VFW Post, 136 W. Grand. They will be serving corn beef and cabbage, potatoes, carrots, dessert, coffee or punch. Prices are $8.00 a plate for Adults and $5.00 for children under 8. Plan on joining them for good food and a fun time!

Jump Rope for Heart raises $2,600

The Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser at Mancos Elementary school raised $2,600 for the American Heart Association.

Jessica Willburn, the organizer and a high school student, held a short assembly on Thursday to recognize the top fundraisers. Rianne Galloway raised the most with $295. Kaison Zufelt, Akima Kane, Chauncy Aspromonte and Madison Todd were also in the top five. Each child was recognized with a certificate.
