FRIDAY, FEB. 21
6:40 p.m. A deputy responded to the Dolores High School for an intoxicated male yelling at and chasing junior high students. The reporting party couldn't tell what the suspect was saying, because his speech was mumbled. The reporting party said the man was intoxicated, and when asked to leave, the man stopped a vehicle and yelled at the occupants. Upon arriving at the scene, the deputy located the subject at a nearby apartment complex yelling in a woman's face with slurred and mumbled speech. Once detained, the man continued yelling and attempted to pull away from the deputy's grasp as they walked to the patrol car. The suspect failed to comply with the deputy's request to blow into a Breathalyzer, and challenged the deputy to a fight. Ten minutes after being placed into the patrol car, the suspect agreed to a Breathalyzer, which indicated he had a .265 blood alcohol content. Another witness said the suspect screamed at two other men at the apartment complex, and they were both scared to leave the residence. Upon arriving at the jail, deputies had to use bolt cutters to remove the handcuffs from the suspect. The 28-year-old man was charged with disorderly conduct.
SATURDAY, FEB. 22
12:18 p.m. A CR 17 resident reported a yellow 1980 Dodge D-50 stolen. The case remains under investigation.
1:04 a.m. A deputy arrested and charged a 28-year-old man with DUI and weaving in a black sedan on Hwy. 160. The driver admitted to drinking four beers several hours earlier, and reportedly stumbled when exiting the vehicle. The driver was unable to perform the deputy's requested roadside maneuvers. A Breathalyzer indicated the driver had a blood alcohol content of .121.
TUESDAY, FEB. 25
2:33 a.m. A deputy arrested and charged a 20-year-old woman for second-degree burglary after she admitted to entering a home uninvited on CR U in search of hydrocodone. The suspect said an old high school friend lived at the residence, and she entered the home because of her addiction to prescription pain pills. No items were reported stolen.
11:38 a.m. A deputy arrested and charged both a 29-year-old man and a 23-year-old man with drug possession following a traffic stop for speeding, 71 in a 55 mph zone. Reports show both men possessed small amounts of methamphetamines.
THURSDAY, FEB. 27
9:50 a.m. A resident on CR L reported the theft of a Craftsman 20-gallon air compressor valued at $500 from a garage. There was no sign of forced entry. The case remains under investigation.
FRIDAY, FEB. 28
2:38 p.m. A deputy issued a summons and released a 53-year-old woman who reportedly attempted to steal a plastic cup, jacket and sunglasses from the Ute Mountain Casino gift shop. The items totaled $50. The suspect said she wanted to gift the items to a friend. Deputies informed the suspect not to return to the casino.
SATURDAY, MARCH 1
4:15 p.m. A deputy arrested and charged a 45-year-old man with driving under the influence without a license on Hwy. 184 after his wife called to inform law enforcement that her husband was drinking and driving. The suspect admitted to drinking beer and whiskey at a relative's home all day. After stumbling while exiting the vehicle, the suspect said he a bad knee, and he declined to perform any voluntary roadside tests. At the jail, the suspect's Breathalyzer test was recorded at .227.
SUNDAY, MARCH 2
11:19 a.m. A deputy arrested and charged a 28-year-old Arizona man with multiple traffic violations on Hwy. 160 and violation of a protection order. The suspect said he was in Colorado to pay a DUI fine. During the stop, the deputy discovered a protection order was in place for a female passenger in the vehicle.
MONDAY, MARCH 3
1:24 p.m. A deputy responded to the sheriff's office, where a woman reported that a $100 alimony check included a written memo from her ex-husband that stated, "Your time is going to come." The woman said she was frightened, and her ex-husband had previously been physically, mentally and verbally abusive toward her. A valid protection was in place, barring any communication between the two parties. The ex-husband was later contacted, and he admitted to writing the memo to inform his ex-wife that karma would catch up with her. After placing the 61-year-old man under arrest for violation of a protection order, he told authorities he could write whatever notes he wanted.
2:14 p.m. A man informed deputies that he paid $5,000 cash last July for a 51-year-old man to construct a greenhouse at his residence. Last August, the victim said he agreed to sell a dirt bike to the same man for $1,500, but no payment was received at the time. Last November, the green house had yet to be built, and the dirt bike payment remained outstanding. The victim instructed the suspect not to construct the green house, and instead return a total payment of $6,500. Several similar requests for payment were made throughout December and into the New Year. Full restitution has yet to be made. The case remains under investigation.
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 5
8 p.m. A deputy returned a phone call from a man who wanted to report that his Colt 1911 .45 caliber pistol was stolen from his vehicle that was parked at the Blue Door Pawn Shop. There were no suspects or leads, and the case remains under investigation.
SATURDAY, MARCH 8
1:27 a.m. A deputy responded to the Escalante Trailer parks in Dolores for a possible hit-and-run. The victim's truck sustained heavy damages, and witnesses identified the driver as an 18-year-old male. Contacted a half-hour later, the suspect claimed a stuck accelerator caused the accident, and he left the scene out of fear. Deputies said the suspect was unable to complete roadside maneuvers satisfactorily, and the suspect was arrested and charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, careless driving and illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor. The suspect reportedly had a blood alcohol content of .151.
8:57 a.m. The owner of A&A RV Park and Campground on Hwy. 160 reported two 5-gallon propane gas tanks and one large, possibly a 150-gallon, acetylene dissolved gas tank had been stolen from a shed while he was in Alaska over the winter. The tanks were valued at about $300. There was no sign of forced entry, and the case was closed due to a lack of any evidence.
