The Mancos High School boys' cross-country team can run, the Mancos High School girls' volleyball team can spike, and apparently, both teams know how to perform in the classroom.

Based on their classroom work, the boys cross-country team and the girls volleyball teams were named CHSAA Les Schwab Tire Centers Academic Team Champions.

To meet the nomination criteria, members of the teams had to participate in 75 percent of the varsity season and earn at least a 3.50 grade point average.

Members of the cross-country team who helped secure the award were Ro Paschal, Asa Kearns, Nic Archuleta, Vincent Grego, Zane Goodell and Justin Burton.

The team had the highest cumulative team GPA statewide in the sport of cross country.

Members of the girls volleyball team that secured the award were Emily Funmaker, Brandi Bundy, Courtney Colyer, Jessica Wilburn, Taylor Goff, Taryn Gordanier, Jessica Gutierrez and Nicole Hess.

As a result of their academic accomplishments, team members received a certificate, a pin and a letter from CHSAA.
