Mancos gets in the summer spirit early this year. We have the Mancos Valley Chorus busy practicing for its annual spring performance. We can look for to that in early May.

The Cowboy Half Marathon is deep into its preparations for its inaugural run scheduled for Saturday, May 17. The event will begin in Boyle Park with runners tackling the ups and downs of Road 41 as it heads toward Webber Canyon. If you would be interested in volunteering to help with the run, send an email to mancosproject@gmail.com or call 814-558-9519. You can register to run at the website: www.cowboyhalfmarathon.com. On Saturday, June 14, the Mancos Valley Arts Council will sponsor the Mancos Arts Roundup which is the annual tour of artist studios around the valley and art demonstrations in town. The Arts Roundup headquarters will be at the Mancos Town Gallery housed in the VC at 101 E. Bauer. There people will be able to pick up their map of the artist studio locations and learn of other art events in the valley.

With all the fun activities coming up, now is a good opportunity to remind everyone about the Mancos Community Calendar. Anyone in the community can suggest an event be added to the calendar simply by visiting the Chamber website at: www.mancosvalley.com. You can click on the "Events" tab, which pulls up the calendar. When you click on the "Suggest Event" tab on the left side of the page, it will pull up a template for you to fill in with your event. Hit "send," and it's on its way to the Chamber of Commerce email.

The Visitor Center (VC) will be very busy during these special events, and extra volunteers are always appreciated. This is another call for folks who would be interested in helping out at the VC during the summer months as well.

We can be flexible with our hours for you, and it's a fun, interesting job. We have the opportunity to visit with people from around the world. Mesa Verde National Park is a big draw for people from Europe, Japan, Korea, and not to mention, folks from all over the United States too. We look forward to hearing from you soon. We have a training session coming up for volunteers on Wednesday, May 1. Call 970-533-7434.
