Competing at the Rocky Mountain Nationals Aztec Warrior, which was held in Farmington, April 25-26, several members of the team performed well.

As a team, Mancos finished second overall in the tournament, which featured teams from throughout the Four Corners area.

Top placers for Mancos included Ayden Mathews, Chase Moore and Erik Wyman, who placed second overall in their respective divisions.

Placing third overall for Mancos was Breccan Morelli, while Traycer White, Levi Martin, Kail Waymon, Ty Everett and Luika Cova took fourth.

Rounding out the Mancos placers, Chistian Cova, Tristan Jones and Colt Futy took fifth.

Several Mancos wrestlers also enjoyed success in event's freestyle tournament. Chase Mathews took first overall, while Mathews and Wyman each took second. Everett finished fourth overall.

"The tournament was a great success and really gave everyone an opportunity to see where they stack up on the larger seen," wrote Mancos Youth Wrestling head coach Alan Mathews. "We had kids beat nationally ranked kids this weekend."

Clearly pleased with his team's performance over the course of the season, Mathews praised his wrestlers for their hard work and dedication.

"Each wrestler in the program made great strides this season as individuals and as wrestlers," wrote Matthews. "Our program has so much to be proud of."

With the youth season now complete, Mathews is hopeful that team members will continue working hard in anticipation of next year.

"It's an ongoing process, but it is safe to say that wrestling in Mancos is on the rise," wrote Mathews. "The sky is the limit for these young athletes."
