The Mancos Valley Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the beer garden for the Mancos Half Marathon this Saturday, May 17.

The Main Street Brewery from Cortez will be serving up the beer beginning at noon. The awards ceremony will take place at the Visitor Center. Ben Hahn, event organizer, came to the Chamber of Commerce month Board meeting to give an update on the event.

They are still looking for volunteers to help at aid stations and at the start/finish line.

Hahn explained that runners can become disoriented on the trail and at the finish line because they are so focused on running. He said that the runners often need people along the trail and at the finish line to point them in the right direction to keep them on track.

Hahn also said that it would be helpful to have photographers on the run. Photographers who'd like to capture some of the action, may contact Hahn. He also said there is still time for runners to register.

Learn more and register at www.cowboyhalfmarathon.com or call Ben Hahn, 814-558-9519 or send an e-mail to mancosproject@gmail.com.

The Mancos Cowboy Half Marathon is a first-class event with $2,000 in prize money.

According to Hahn, some first-class athletes have already registered.

"This will be a very competitive event," he said.
