Law enforcement was investigating a reported shooting Tuesday afternoon near Weaselskin Bridge, south of Durango.
The incident was reported about 12:35 p.m. near the parking lot at Weaselskin Bridge, near the junction of county roads 213 (La Posta Road) and 214. The land appeared to be part of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe reservation, and the FBI was called to help investigate.
First responders attempted lifesaving measures immediately after arriving on scene.
La Posta Road and County Road 214 were closed until at least 2 p.m. near the site of the shooting.
The La Plata County Sheriff’s Office, which assisted at the scene, declined to provide further information, saying it was being handled by the Southern Ute Indian Tribe.
Southern Ute Tribal spokeswoman Lindsay Box said an incident took place “involving a Tribal Ranger.”
“Information is limited at this time due to the pending investigation,” she wrote 2:35 p.m. in an email to The Durango Herald. “The Tribe is working with multiple agencies due to the jurisdictional status of this incident.”
People were being asked to stay away from the scene, she said.
