This is good news for the reservoir as is the recent snow, which has most likely dropped some more snow to feed the river onto our mountains. As seen from Big Bend over the weekend, the lake was once again starting to rise and water was starting to reach the boat ramp there.
It was a strange sight over the winter to stand at Big Bend and not be able to see the lake.
Mother's Day, Dolores style
Mother's Day was a fun day in Dolores. Many residents were seen taking their mothers to Four Seasons Greenhouse, picking out some of the hundreds of beautiful hanging baskets there.
That is exactly what we did on Sunday and followed it with my mother's and my favorite drink: a chai tea from the Pony Expresso in Dolores.
Town Board's 2013 audit
The Dolores Town Board met on Monday and went over the 2013 audit, an annual tradition.
According to Ann Swope, everything was reported up-to-par.
Also on Monday, the town board discussed a draft ordinance concerning extending the moratorium on the retail sales of marijuana. Town Attorney Mike Green doesn't believe the town is ready to handle retail sales and will have the draft ordinance ready for the town board to approve at the June 9 meeting.
The town board also discussed the sidewalk project, which will likely begin this summer. The project will see more sidewalks built around the library and post office.
Cleaning up
In other town news, the town held its annual cleanup days Monday and Tuesday and reported that they picked up a lot of trash and yard debris and that the town looks spic and span.
Unfortunately, however, the town reported that the crews had to do a lot of hand sorting this year, making the task take a bit longer.
Get ready for the festival
It's time to start gearing up for the Dolores River Festival, which will be June 7 at Joe Rowell Park.
The event starts at 10 a.m. and lasts until dusk.
Cost to enter is $15, and some of the bands that will play are: Rowdy Shadehouse, Casper and the Mighty 602 Band, PAA Kow, Jaden Carlson Band and Heartbeat. The event also is planning raft rides, activities for children and much, much more.
