Over the course of the 2014 spring sports season, several Montezuma-Cortez High School athletes performed well.
No athletes were quite as impressive as the following four however, who, by virtue of several fine performances, received all-conference recognition in the Southwest League.
Gabriella Wolf – first team
Suiting up for her second season of soccer at M-CHS, sophomore Gabriella Wolf led the Panthers from her forward position.
A second-team all-conference selection as a freshman, Wolf worked diligently to improve before her sophomore year.
“I was really excited and very surprised,” Wolf said of her selection to the first team. “Soccer is nonstop for me, and I’m always improving. I plan on training really hard (this summer).”
Konnar McGee – honorable mention
A pitcher and an offensive force, junior Konnar McGee enjoyed a standout season for the baseball team.
Finishing first on the team with a .373 batting average, McGee also drove in 15 runs, pitched 29.2 total innings, and registered two wins.
“Konnar is a very good baseball player,” said M-CHS baseball manager Mathew Betts. “Offensively, he was definitely our number one. He tries to help his team out in any way that he can.”
Kenna Tarr – honorable mention
A leader on and off the field, senior Kenna Tarr helped the soccer team by assisting on multiple goals and controlling the midfield. Tarr’s fiery style of play inspired her teammates to perform.
Tarr plans to attend Pensacola Christian College next year and participate on a club soccer team.
“I’ll always remember making lasting memories with friends,” Tarr said after the season.
Eddie Martinez –honorable mention
Enjoying a breakout season for the baseball team, junior Eddie Martinez’s defense and timely hitting bolstered his team.
He tied for the team lead in runs scored with 16, and finished third on the team with 12 RBIs.
“Offensively, (Eddie) turned it up late in the season,” said Betts. “He started contributing, and he was one of our better offensive players.”
