FARMINGTON – The critters at the Farmington Regional Animal Shelter are going to be a little warmer this winter thanks to Marsha Marie Buell, who set out earlier this month to wrap presents for families who might need a little help decorating.

The only request the 25-year-old made was for people to consider making donations to the shelter so Buell could donate food and supplies.

The entire Buell family has been volunteering in some way with the animal shelter for the last five years.

Last year, Buell offered the same free wrapping service, and thanks to three generous families, she ended up being able to collect $40 of donations that she used to purchase 12 blankets and food for prospective pets.

Buell wrapped for two families this year and ended up wrapping more than 30 gifts. Still, she said six individuals and families donated money.

Because of that, this year, Buell collected more than triple last year’s donations. She was able to purchase 16 fleece blankets, 35 toys, four large bags of soft treats, two bags of small rawhides and two bags of large rawhides.

To receive so much more in donations this year made Buell feel “thankful and joyous,” she said.

“Marsha definitely made our day by bringing a ton of goodies for the animals,” said shelter director Stacie Voss. “It means a lot to us to get support from the community. Not only does it make the animals’ day when they get special treats and toys, but it also makes the staff feel supported as well.”
