The board appointed three members to the newly created design review board on May 29.
The new board members are Reneata Collins, Tim Hunter and Rena Wilson.
The new board calls for five members, but the town administrator informed the trustees it was important to have members in place because the moratorium on retail stores over 5,000 square feet is set to expire shortly. It is expected that Family Dollar will apply for a building permit and the new board would have to work with the company.
Each of the new board members submitted a letter with experience.
Collins listed 20 years of retail and design experience. Wilson worked for 30 years in design and project management.
Hunter also has 30 years of experience in construction and has worked on design review boards before.
Bake sale and car wash to fund fireworks
This weekend the Mancos Valley Bank and National Honors Society students will be holding two joint fundraisers for the summer fire works display.
Friday there will a bake sale and silent auction from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A car wash will be held outside the bank on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the suggested donation is $10.
If you would like to donate to the bake sale items can be dropped off at the bank on Friday morning.
The hope is to have the funds ready for a Fourth of July fireworks display, if conditions permit.
Library screens 'The New Black'
The Mancos Public Library presents an advance screening of "The New Black" on Thursday at 6 p.m.
The film takes viewers from church pews to the streets to kitchen tables, as it follows how the African American community is grappling with LGBT rights issues in light of the recent same-sex marriage movement and the fight over civil rights.
The film explores the struggle over same-sex marriage in the state of Maryland, where the battle for the hearts and minds of black voters - almost a third of the electorate - is fought from the pulpit. Through the stories of activists, families, and clergy on both sides of the debate, The New Black charts the evolution of this divisive issue within the black community. Directed by Yoruba Richen, The New Black premieres on Independent Lens, hosted by Stanley Tucci, on Sunday, June 15, 2014, 10:30/9:30c on PBS.
Movie Mondays continue at library
Movie Mondays continue at the Mancos Public Library. The movie begins at 4 p.m. and is for children 8 and up. Younger children are welcome with an adult or someone over the age of 14. Free snacks provided. For more information please call MPL at 533-7600.

Planning department continues amid change
County Administrator Melissa Brunner says the county planning department is undergoing a reorganization, but it continues to meet planning and public needs.
Former director Susan Carver resigned May 22. Planning assistant LeeAnn Milligan will be reassigned to the county's noxious weed-management department.
The county is advertising for a new planning director and plans to reorganize the office. No interim director has been named.
The director salary will be between $47,000 and $52,000.
Playground Days looking for volunteers
SJMA is working with Cortez Parks and Recreation and Trout Unlimited, Dolores River Anglers chapter, to bring educational programs to children, ages 5-10 attending the Playground Days summer day camp. We'll be teaching kids about everything from water, to water conservation, water bugs, fish anatomy, and culminating in a fishing day on the Dolores River.
These programs take place at 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Wednesdays, June 18 - July 16, with a longer commitment July 23.
