A single-wide mobile home south of Elmore’s Corner in La Plata County was destroyed by fire Thursday morning, but the four occupants and their three dogs escaped unharmed.
Durango Fire Protection District Fire Marshal Karola Hanks said a call came in about 8:37 a.m. that a mobile home on County Road 221 was fully engulfed in flames.
The owner does not have insurance, but all four occupants and their pets were unhurt, Hanks said.
Firefighters remained at the scene at 11 a.m. mopping up and watching for hot spots, Hanks said. County Road 221 was closed while firefighters battled the blaze. The cause remains under investigation.
DFPD Battalion Chief Randy Black said three engines, one ambulance and four tankers responded, and 21 firefighters responded.
DFPD was assisted by Upper Pine River Fire Protection District, La Plata County Sheriff’s Office, La Plata Electric Association, Atmos Energy and the Red Cross.
