Colorado Sun writer Nancy Lofholm, for unclear reasons, saw fit to label U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert as a “high school dropout” in her Jan. 15 article (“boebert vowed to shaek things up – she did”) about the start of Rep. Boebert’s term.

Why was this information relevant to the story? While readers might be served by a thoughtful review of a candidate’s educational background during an election year - with surrounding circumstances or the candidate’s thoughts adding needed depth - labeling someone in this fashion seems directed simply at petty denigration.

We have long quit labeling people by race or by gender when those factors are not relevant to a story. Why do you glibly continue to do so on the issue of class? Not everyone grew up in circumstances where a complete or even higher education was a birthright. There are plenty of lawyers and business school grads in Congress to represent those interests. Perhaps the Herald team could understand the Trump movement better if it gave some thought to how well other constituencies are represented - or not - in the halls of power. Please try to do better,
