Mancos saw an increase in crime over the summer months that Marshal John Cox attributed to the increased tourist population and increased activity.

"The summer tourist season is generally the busiest portion of the year for us because of the increased number of people in town. School is out, also which may contribute to increased calls for service," he said.

Calls for service can include criminal and non-criminal issues as well.

From April through June the Mancos Marshal's office saw 14 charges filed against suspects in criminal cases. These charges included two cases of sexual assault, two assaults and two cases of child abuse. The office issued 17 speeding tickets and handled six car accidents.

While from January through March the office had three charges filed against suspects including one violation of a restraining order, one case of driving with a license revoked and one person wanted for a felony. The office also issued 21 speeding tickets.
