Man dies after hitting tree
A man died as after going through a barb wire fence and striking a tree Saturday, Aug. 16 on the 4300 block of Road M in Echo Basin, Undersheriff Lynda Carter said.
Shaun Hanks was found by people in the area who heard the little boys who were with him screaming, she said. The man was unresponsive when the authorities arrived on the scene.
Boyle Park smaller than believed
The town board discovered after hiring a surveyor that Boyle Park is only 6.2 acres. It was previously believed that the park was 13 acres, based on historical documents. The town also discovered that a neighbor had slightly encroached on the park. They directed the town administrator to send the neighbor a letter letting them know at the Aug. 27 meeting.
Fairgrounds to host horse show
The Montezuma County Fairgrounds will be the location for a dressage and hunter/jumper horse show, Sept. 13 and 14, hosted by the Four Corners Dressage and Combined Training Association. Entries for the Dressage (both English and Western) and the Combined Training portions of the show are due by Sept. 5 and must include a current (within 12 months) negative Coggins test. Hunter/Jumper entries are due by Sept. 10 to avoid a late fee. Complete show information, including classes available and information on how to enter, is available at www.4cdcta.org.
Radio station to make changes
KSJD is making changes to its weekday noontime programming starting Monday, Sept. 8, replacing "Here & Now" with a variety of programs, including "Snap Judgment" on Mondays, "State of the re:Union" on Tuesdays, "The TED Radio Hour on Wednesdays," and "Radiolab" on Thursdays. "Science Friday" will continue on Fridays.

Fall Horses healing group to start soon
Registration is now open for the Fall Horses and Healing group at Medicine Horse Center. It is a therapy group for women dealing with hardships such as trauma or loss.
The group will meet 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. starting Tuesday Oct. 7, and the following three Mondays. The group is limited to eight participants.

San Juan Skyway anniversary meeting set
As part of the San Juan Skyway 25th Anniversary Project, a public meeting will take place Tuesday, Sept. 9 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the San Juan Public Lands Center, 15 Burnett Court, Durango Tech Center in Durango.
The meeting will educate attendees about the significance of the Skyway; explain past accomplishments; and generate ideas for possible projects. The meeting will provide an opportunity for the public to offer ideas about the San Juan Skyway, a 236-mile loop drive often referred to as "one of the most scenic drives in America."
