Next year, the sixth grade at Dolores Middle School will move into the Dolores Elementary School, making the elementary school for students in kindergarten through sixth-grade.
Dolores Elementary School Principal Sherri Maxwell will host a meeting tonight, Sept. 18 at 5 p.m. at the elementary school to discuss how this move will happen and what it will look like for parents and students.
Students raise money
Dolores Student Leaders in Community Service hosted a Movie Night fundraiser recently to raise money for St. Jude's Children's Hospital and Children's Hospital of Denver.
Almost 30 students attended the event and local business The Pony Espresso made a generous donation.
Preparations for homecoming
Homecoming is still a few weeks away, but Dolores High School is already making preparations for the big week. Last year, students began the tradition of painting bear paws on the sidewalks and having the seniors sign their name on a paw. Students plan on doing that again this year, as well as decorate windows. The Home Coming Schedule is starting to come together. On Oct. 1, there will be a Powder Puff game at 7 p.m. Peach Fuzz will be Oct. 2 at 12:44. A bonfire will be at Joe Rowell Park on Oct. 2 at 8 p.m. There will be a pep rally on Oct. 3 at 2 p.m., followed by the parade at 3 p.m. and the game at 7 p.m. There will be a dance on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.
New crosswalk
Dolores Elementary School Principal Sherri Maxwell was thrilled this week with a new concrete cross walk in front of her school. The road in front of Dolores Elementary is dirt and gravel so, she admitted that she has always had a tough time keeping any sort of markings on the road to show students where to cross. Because construction crews were already on site pouring concrete, they were able to pour the crosswalk. Maxwell said it will make the school safer and be easier for students to see where they should cross the road.
