Although the Mancos High School football team has improved, wins have been tough to come by.
Playing on the road against Sanford on Sept. 19, the Bluejays struggled, losing 48-12 to fall to 1-4 on the season.
According to associate head coach Josh Gardner, a slow start and a few costly turnovers doomed the Bluejays, who trailed 36-0 at halftime.
"We kind of got off to a slow start and turned the ball over a few times," said Gardner. "We made a couple of mental errors."
Scoring one rushing touchdown each for the Bluejays were Everett Strazza-Whalen and Bowen Strazza-Whalen, who, according to Parsons, both ran the ball well.
Also putting forth a solid effort was Mancos fullback Andrew Morgan, who, according to Gardner, opened several holes for the Bluejays running backs.
Next up for the Bluejays will be a home matchup against Sargent on Sept. 27. The game will begin at 1 p.m.
"(Sargent) is pretty tough," said Gardner. "They're quick off the ball. We've got some growing up to do. We're going to need to step up our game."
