Under head coach Micah Rudosky, the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers golf team has been turning out collegiate golfers left and right.
And currently, there are three former M-CHS golfers hitting the links for college programs.
The most recent Panther to make the leap is 2015 graduate Hayden Plewe.
Starting at Southern Utah University for the spring semester, Plewe has competed in four intercollegiate meets to date.
In his first college outing, Plewe and teammate Fidel Concepcion led their Thunderbird team by each shooting a 150 in two rounds of play to tie for 36th in the Pizza Hut-Pat Hicks Invitational at Sunbrook Golf Course in St. George, Utah.
In his next two meets, Plewe played three rounds, first finishing with a 232 at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert, California, before shooting 10 strokes better (222) and tying for 42nd place in the Del Walker Intercollegiate Golf Classic at the Virginia Country Club in Long Beach, California.
Plewe will next take the course April 4-5 in the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in Chandler, Arizona.
Another former Panther golfer in the college ranks is Jakob Rudosky, who graduated from Dolores High School in 2014.
Rudosky is currently a sophomore at Missouri Western State University, where he is one of the top players for the Griffons.
In both of the Griffons’ two spring meets this season, Rudosky has finished as the team leader.
First, he shot a 146 in two rounds of play to tie for 19th place at the David Falconer Memorial Classic at Chamberlyne Country Club in Danville, Arkansas early this March.
Then, in a meet hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma at Gaillardia Country Club in Oklahoma City, Rudosky again led the Griffons by recording a 162 in two rounds of play to tie for 12th.
He is also in action on Monday and Tuesday, April 4-5, as Missouri Western travels to Mountain Home, Arkansas for a meet at Big Creek Golf Course, hosted by Henderson State University.
Chris Aiken is the final former M-CHS golfer suiting up at the college level.
The 2012 M-CHS graduate is finishing out his senior season with the Colorado Mesa University golf program.
The Mavericks played at the Fujikura Invitational at Shadowridge Country Club in San Marcos, California, and then in the Cal Baptist Invitational at Eagle Glen Country Club in Corona, California.
Aiken shot a 250 and finished in 76th place in the three round season-opener, and dropped to 225 strokes and a 27th-place finish in his second meet of the spring.
Aiken and the CMU Mavericks play next at Pueblo Country Club, April 11-12 in the Regional Crossover.
