The Ancestral Homelands exhibit opens at the Anasazi Heritage Center with a reception on Friday, Dec. 5, 2014.

The Canyon of the Ancients and the Anasazi Heritage Center in Dolores presents “Ancestral Homelands: Connection to Land, Space and Time,” an exhibit showcasing artwork from The Institute of American Indian Arts.

You will want to attend this contemporary art exhibition produced for the Anasazi Heritage Center Gallery by IAIA and student guest curator, Therese Lynston. This exhibit explores – through contemporary art – the influence of cultural ancestors and traditions as evident through our connections to the land.

Therese Lynston’s theme was inspired by the concept that modern Indigenous peoples’ art is a creative expression that reflects an ingrained connection to the ancestors and the land.

This relationship is embedded in the exhibit art, which becomes the vessel for culturally-based stories. And as such, the art reflects an honoring of culture that spans generations, while celebrating the adaption and evolvement of modern art.

The Ancestral Homelands exhibit opens at the Anasazi Heritage Center with a reception on Friday, Dec. 5, 2014, at 5 p.m.: 27501 Highway 184, Dolores, CO 81323.

The exhibit will run through October, 2015.
