Between 2006 and 2010, Micah Conrads was one of Montezuma-Cortez High School’s finest athletes, staring in soccer, basketball and track. While at M-CHS, Conrads was selected to the Southwest League’s all-conference soccer team twice.
Now more than four years removed from his final high school competition, Conrads continues to excel athletically as the starting goalie at Colorado Mesa University.
Thanks in part to Conrads work in its net, the CMU men’s soccer team is currently ranked 10th in the nation among Division II soccer programs. CMU also sits atop the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with an 11-2-1 overall record and a 9-1 record in the league.
Highlighting the CMU season have been wins over Metro State University (Oct. 3) and Regis University (Oct. 10). Both Regis and Metro were ranked in the top 15 in the nation when they lost to CMU.
As good as CMU has been from a team standpoint, Conrads has been equally solid as an individual, accumulating a 5-2-1 record on the season. The fifth-year senior currently leads CMU in minutes played (734) and saves (34).
Most recently, the former M-CHS star made three saves against Colorado Christian College to help lead CMU to a 4-0 victory on Oct. 17.
By no means a one-year wonder, Conrads was named RMAC Goalkeeper of the year last season and helped lead CMU to an RMAC Tournament Championship. He finished the year with an 8-0-3 overall record.
“Personally, (2013) was a great season for me,” Conrads said last year. “I didn’t have any losses on the season and it was a huge year for the team.”
Conrads also started 17 times as a sophomore in 2012 and 10 times as a freshman in 2011 after redshirting in 2010.
While soccer has certainly consumed a great deal of time during his four years at CMU, Conrads has found time to excel academically and was named to the RMAC Academic Honor Role in 2013. The fifth-year senior will graduate in Dec. with a degree in Criminal Justice.
CMU will close out its regular season with home games against Fort Lewis College (Oct. 24) and Adams State University (Oct. 26), followed by road games against Metro State (Oct. 31) and Regis (Nov. 2).
The RMAC Tournament will begin on Nov. 5 and the NCAA Tournament will begin on Nov. 13.
