Playing its final matches of the 2014 season, the Montezuma-Cortez High School team lost twice in the Class 4A Region 7 Tournament.
Opening the Tournament against Evergreen High School on Nov. 1, the Panthers lost in five games.
“It was kind of tough at the beginning to all the excitement and jitters out,” said M-CHS head coach Andi Pickens. “The first game wasn’t how we usually play.”
Next playing against Mead High School on Nov. 1, M-CHS lost 25-14, 25-18, 25-22.
“(Mead) was pretty tough,” said Pickens. “Our girls had fun the last game. I was proud of them for keeping their attitudes up.”
With the losses, M-CHS wrapped up Pickens’ first year as head coach with a 13-11 record.
“I think the season was awesome,” Pickens said. “I was really pleased with how everything went, how hard the girls worked and how much we improved. I think we had a really good support system this year and I hope that continues.”
