In May of 1950 I completed my sophomore year but it was graduation for a few others.

Mancos High seniors receiving awards are Jack Leavitt, Jo McCrum, and Wilma Doerfer. The other seniors are Janet Brown, Tommy Lou Alexander, Donitta Cox, Helen Decker, Paul Wayne Decker, Charles Freeman, Nadine Gibbs, Hugh Hammond, Dayton Kirkham, Laurel Malone, Clarence Riggins, Joy Smouse, Tommy Lee Snook and Jim Thomas.

A club was held in the grade school lunch room. Two musical numbers by the high school boy's chorus - Tommy Snook, Jerry Decker, Buddy Starr, Darrel Ellis and John Ericson - and a piano solo by Miss Tommy Lou Alexander added to the program.

Bonnie Jean Flora and Clarence Henry Exon were married in Farmington last week. Clarence is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Exon of Mancos. (Henry Exon was the son of Sol Exon and Hettie Mary Parker. Henry married Myrtle Inez and passed away in Farmington in November 1972.)

Alfred Bradshaw and Jimmy Trevino nearly stepped on a huge bull snake at the school picnic. The boys killed the snake, which measured 5 feet, 2½ inches.

Mrs. Ruth Reddert, Misses Guyla Reddert and Charlene Wagner and Kenneth Brown spent Sunday at Trimble Springs. (Kenneth later married Ruth Reddert. The only one living of that group is Charlene Wagner.)

Mt. Lookout Grange met May 4 and despite the raging blizzard a good attendance was present. Vernon Ellis sang two songs in honor of his mother and Ellen Holston gave a reading. (Vernon passed away in November 1988 and his mother, Harriet Adelia Bell Ellis, died in January 1953.)

Scouts and Explorers of Mancos honored their mothers in a special Mothers Day Court of Honor Sunday evening. Numerous awards and ribbons were presented by Scoutmaster John Decker, and committeemen Worth Holder, Harry Halls, Arnold Riffey, Raymond Starr, Earl Hammond and Explorer leader Kenneth Ross.

Walter Coppinger is driving a 1950 Chevrolet coupe, purchased last week from the Mallett Motor Company. (Walter married Vernie Cook in 1909 and they came to Mancos in 1936. He passed away in June 1954.)

Willard Carrol underwent a successful surgical operation at the Veterans Hospital in Grand Junction. (Willard passed away in May 1979. He was the father of Elwood who passed away later at the age of 67.)

Charles Lamb, 39, was fatally injured in a car wreck May 7 when he was thrown from his car and pinned under the wheels in a head on crash. (Charles was the son of Ammon Lamb and Nellie Williams.)

Mrs. Robert Bement and son Robbie are spending this week in Denver visiting her parents.

Val Waggoner spent Mothers Day here with his mother, Mrs. John Bauer. (John Bauer married Carrie Waggoner in 1941. Her son Val died some years ago in St. George, Utah.)

The DeMolay mothers are meeting this afternoon at the home of Mrs. Earl Ericson, with Mrs. Raymond Starr and Mrs. Kenny Wallace assisting. (Martha Starr was the mother of Buddy Starr who died in an airplane accident in the spring of 1956. She married Raymond Starr who was part owner in the Red Arrow Gold Mine. She passed away in 1977.)
