For fast-rising motocross star Eli Tomac, experience gained last season is paying off.
Racing at Chase Field in Phoenix on Jan. 10, Tomac pulled away from a talented field to win the second round of the 2015 Monster Energy Supercross Series’ 450cc class.
The victory marked Tomac’s first Supercross win in the 450cc division and left the Cortez native excited.
“Honestly, it was just super-fun,” said Tomac in a GEICO Motorcycle press release. “I got second twice last year, and I was getting beat up by the best guys in the world. Somewhere around the middle of the race, I ended up getting in front.”
Tomac surged past Ken Roczen midway through the race before pulling away for a 6.4-second victory.
“The last five laps, I was putting it on cruise control,” Tomac said. “It was a gnarly race. I was huffing and puffing at the end of (the last lap).”
Hoping to secure his second career Supercross victory in the 450cc class, Tomac will next travel Anaheim, Calif., for the third round of the Monster Energy Series on Jan. 17.
