If you live in Dolores, or anywhere nearby for that matter, don't make plans for the next two Fridays. And to make things even easier, both events are at the same place.

The Dolores Community Center will be the spot for the Dolores River Boating Advocate's Permit Party on Jan. 16 and the Wild and Scenic Film Festival on Jan. 23.

First things first: The Permit Party will be between 6 and 10 p.m. this Friday, see more in today's paper on Page 1.

The Wild and Scenic Film Festival, an annual fundraiser for the Montezuma Land Conservancy will be Jan. 23. Doors open at 5:45 p.m., and films begin at 6:30 p.m. The family event costs $15 per adult and $5 for kids 12 and under.

Vandalism reported

There have been two incidents of vandalism to the park grass areas in Riverside Park and Joe Rowell Park as well as the High School Football field, according to a report from Dolores Town Manager Lana Hancock.

The case was handed over the Montezuma County Sheriff's Department.

Town to discuss marijuana

The Dolores Town Board is expected to discuss retail marijuana stores at the February workshop.

No school

There is no school for Dolores students Friday or Monday. If you are looking for some something to do with your kids on Monday, there is a pancake breakfast in Mancos at the Grange.

You also can join San Juan Mountains Association and Colorado Parks and Wildlife naturalists on Monday, Jan. 19, from 10 a.m. to noon for a Winter Discovery Walk for Families at Mancos State Park. Come use your senses to discover the peace of nature in winter. If there is safe ice depth, the group plans to go out on the lake to learn about ice fishing and frozen lake ecology. Meet at the pavilion near the entrance to the park. Open to families with children ages 4 and up. Snowshoes for children are provided if needed - adults who need snowshoes are required to pre-register.

Contact SJMA to register for this walk (preregistration requested) at 759-1170 or e-mail gabi@sjma.org. There is a park entrance fee of $7 per vehicle.
