After placing sixth at state as a freshman and fifth as a sophomore, Dove Creek High School junior Case Baughman is contending for a state title.
He must reckon with some of the toughest wrestlers in the deep and talented 126-pound class. He is confident that his experience will pay off.
“I’ve been there,” he said. “It’s just time to go and do business.”
Baughman (37-9) opens his quest against Sedwick/Fleming High School’s Keith Graham (38-4) on Friday. If he wins, he’ll face Monte Vista High School’s Jose Duran (35-5) or Hanover High School’s Noah Belcher (28-10).
“My goal right now is to be state champ,” said Baughman. “Everyone is expecting Paonia’s three-time defending state champ Jesse Reed to win it. I’m kind of an underdog, and I’ll use that to my advantage.”
