Mancos track teams open season

With several of their top athletes playing basketball at Regional tournaments, the Mancos High School boys and girls track teams opened their season at the Early Bird Invitational in Farmington on March 7.

Boys show signs of rust

Competing against several large schools and numerous talented athletes, the Mancos boys track team placed 13th in the Early Bird's 13-team field.

Caleb Yoder produced the top finish for Mancos, crossing the fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:22.99.

Also cracking the top-10 was freshman Simon Kearns, who finished 7th in the 3200-meter run (11:22.42) and Asa Kearns, who finished tenth in the 3200-meter run (12:08.80).

Axel Bonde finished 12th in the triple jump (31 feet, 9 inches) and 15th in the 200-meter dash (26.07), Sam Fleitz finished 15th in the discus (86 feet) Vincent Grego finished 17th in the 800-meter run (2:41.93) and Zane Wilson finished 20th in the 800-meter run (2:47.89.

Four girls kick off season

With only five athletes competing at the Early Bird, the Mancos girls team failed to score and finished 14th in the 14-team field.

Leading the way for Mancos was Olivia Winter-Holm, who finished seventh in the discus (66 feet, 5 inches) and 42nd in the 200-meter dash (34.25).

Hannah Skinner finished 24th in the 800-meter run (3:18.11) and 28th in the 1600-meter run (7:06.30), Mimi Archuleta finished 26th in the 800-meter run (3:22.83) and Ally Widen finished 27th in the 800-meter run (3:27.42).

Rounding out the Lady Jays competitors was Maya Bonde, who finished 27th in the shot put (22 feet, 2 inches) and 51st in the 200-meter dash (34.25).

Next up for the Mancos track teams will be the Piedra Vista Invitational, which will take place in Farmington on March 14.
