Inside is an article by David Roberts and photographed by Bill Hatcher, formerly of Dolores, which documents a plan to develop a tourist attraction and gondola at the confluence of the Little Colorado and Colorado rivers.
The project has gained momentum in recent months, and both proponents and opponents are at odds. The National Park Service has come out against it, and some locals are divided. Some say the land is sacred, while others say the project will provide much-needed jobs.
Roberts is known locally for his book "In Search of the Old Ones" which talks about local archaeological sites.
Talking trout
Fishing is always a hot topic in Dolores.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife want to hear from local anglers regarding fishing in the Four Corners region at an "Anglers' Roundtable" from 5 to 7 p.m., March 19 at the Dolores Public Lands Center.
The Four Corners area offers a wide variety of fishing opportunities, from high-mountain lakes to small streams, and from big reservoirs to big rivers. At the roundtable, Jim White, CPW aquatic biologist, will talk about the status of the various waters and the future outlook. At the meeting, anglers will also be asked to talk about their recent experiences fishing in this area.
CPW is also in the process of a five-year review of its fishing regulations. Anglers can make suggestions to be included in the review and regulations.
The public lands center is located on Colorado Highway 184 just south of Dolores.
