River Talk: Meeting set for railroad buffs

The Animas Museum will host a presentation by Larry Jensen, author of Hollywood's Railroads, Volume 3, "Narrow Gauge Country" on Saturday, March 21 at 1 p.m.

From the early days of movie making through the era when Durango was known as "Hollywood of the Rockies," the scenic railroad along the Animas River has starred in many films.

Jensen will speak about his research and tell his favorite stories. The Museum is at 3065 W. Second Ave. For more information, call 259-2402.

Film festival sets date

Ryan Robison will be heading up efforts this year for the annual Dolores River Festival, scheduled for June 6.

The Greater Dolores Action will hold the Telluride Mountain Film Fest and Great Outdoors Silent Auction before the event. This year, the event is April 24 at the Dolores Community Center.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and films start at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $10. There also will be food and beverages for purchase.

This is a not-to-be-missed annual springtime, social event of the year.

There will be some great items at the silent auction, but organizers are still looking for items for donation from local businesses.

Robison also said planners are still open to vendors.

This year will also be special for Telluride Mountainfilm portion, with an educational film for kids, followed by a Q-and-A. Details for that portion are in the works.
